Tanner's Junior Prom

Tanner's Junior Prom was last weekend, and it didn't go without a few hiccups.  A guy needs a tux to wear for the "big night", right?  Well, Tanner had one hanging in a closet at Dad's Thursday night, and Friday afternoon it was in Jackson, MO, courtesy of his big brother.  Thomas and Jamie flew in from vacation on Thursday night.  They had a wedding the weekend before, and Thomas hung his suit in a closet at Dad's after the wedding/reception (and I assume before he called Mom to take him to the ER, but that's a different story for a different day).  Thomas got up Friday morning to head home (to Jackson), and grabbed his two suits....or so he thought.  He actually grabbed  his two suits plus Tanner's tux for Prom.  I don't know how in the world you could grab an extra tux, that included shoes, with two suits and not know it, but obviously my brother has male dna, and had no clue he grabbed Tanner's tux.  He didn't realize he had Tanner's tux until he got home and unpacked his car.  By this time, it was after noon on Friday.

Thomas called Dad and told him he needed to meet him half way to get Tanner's tux because Thomas didn't want to drive all the way back to Hettick and then back to Jackson after making the trip that morning (it's a four hour drive one-way).  Dad was watching Ainsley for me that afternoon while I got my hair done, so he couldn't meet Thomas.  What does someone that has that dna I referred to earlier do when they don't want to drive it all the way back?  Well, they decide to mail the tux back using next day service with the United States Postal service.  But, it was okay according to Thomas...they only folded the tux over once before putting it in the mail, and he called the Carlinville post office to verify that it would be there the next morning.

Dad told me this story as I dropped Ainsley off before going to my hair appointment.  After I left, I called Mom to make sure she knew of the situation.   She knew that Thomas had Tanner's tux with him, and that Thomas was going to drive it back that day so Tanner would have it the next day for Prom.  She was a little shocked when I told her that wasn't the deal, and the tux had been shipped via USPS.  She kind of freaked out, and said he couldn't mail it, and after reassuring her that he had already mailed it, and there was no getting it back, she had to call Thomas to hear it herself.   She called me back a few minutes later, crying, because her baby wasn't going to have a tux for prom, because her other son mailed it instead of driving it back.  I had her call Bev's (where we got the original tux) to see if they could have one over-nighted.  They could get one for her for the next day, but it cost a pretty penny.

She ended up ordering the extra tux from Bev's, because we didn't want Tanner to end up with nothing, or a wrinkled tux that had been on a road trip to Missouri and back.  Thomas didn't understand why we ordered another tux from Bev's and said that we were "stupid" and the tux he mailed would be in Carlinville the next morning, and it wouldn't be wrinkled (remember I mentioned this earlier) because they only folded it over once before mailing it.

Saturday morning around 8, I got a text from Thomas telling me that the tux got into Carlinville before 7 that morning and it was already at Marcus and Jackie's for Tanner to pick up.  Leave it to Thomas to have shit-house luck.  The other tux came into Bev's around 10 Saturday morning and Tanner went to pick that one up also (just in case the one that was shipped was wrinkled).

Tanner ended up wearing the one that Thomas shipped, which somehow wasn't wrinkled (insert a big SHUT-IT to Thomas here).  The pants of the tux that came into Bev's were too small, so Tanner said it wouldn't have worked anyway.  I swear, it is never a dull moment in my family and you're constantly on your toes wondering what is going to happen next.

It started raining Saturday afternoon, just in time for pictures before Tanner and Emilee went to eat.  Joel, Ainsley, and I all headed down to Dad's around 3 to get pictures and it was sprinkling when we got there.  We were able to get a few pictures inside.  Emilee's dress was beautiful, and I loved the back of it which was open and criss-crossed near her shoulder blades.

While we were taking picture and standing around talking, Tanner went over and stood against a bar stool, leaning on it all "GQ-like", so I told him to stand like that for a picture with Emilee.  Of course, after Emilee sat down in the chair, he couldn't "remember" how he was standing, so this is what I got...

After showing him how to stand, he finally got it right.

Ainsley had to have her picture taken with Uncle Tanner.

It stopped raining after we got a few pictures inside, so we headed outside to try to get a few more.  Tanner, being the gentleman that he is, carried his date over to the car so she didn't have to walk through the mud.

Aunt Roycelyn let Tanner drive her car to Springfield to eat and then to Prom.  She only gave him a few rules, which was to not drive too fast and be careful.  I think I would've had a few more rules than that!!!

Ainsley and Joel stayed at Dad's until we had to leave for Promenade.  (In the meantime, I ran to Jacksonville Prompt Care to get diagnosed with shingles).  Ainsley was ready to go watch Uncle Tanner at Promenade/coronation!
Excited girl!

Promenade was held in the cafeteria, because it was still raining when all the kids were arriving.  Tanner was on Prom court, so we stayed for coronation after promenade.  We were able to talk to Emilee once we got into the gym before coronation began.  She filled us in on how the night had gone so far.  Tanner had to wash Aunt Roycelyn's car again after they finished eating, because he didn't want to take a dirty car to Prom (even though it was still raining).  While they were washing the car, Tanner realized he forgot to tip the waitress at the restaurant!  I'm very happy to say that he went back to the restuarant to take a tip in for the waitress.  Emilee also ratted Tanner out and told us how nervous he was for coronation.   She said when they got to Prom, he told her he felt sick and headed for the bathroom.  He gets so nervous in front of people!

Mom informed her that he did the same thing when he was in kindergarten and was the crown bearer for Prom.  He was standing up on stage during coronation and Mom said she could see him on the stage and he looked like he could be sick at any minute.

I'm happy to say that he didn't get sick this time on the stage.  He even smiled for the cameras!  You could tell he was nervous, but he did just fine.

One last picture before we left them to dance the night away....

I'm sure Tanner is loving the fact that his big sister is talking about him on her blog, but he'll get over it.  I had to post a picture of me at my Junior prom with Tanner (I'm pretty sure he was the crown bearer that year).  My, how much he's changed....me on the other hand, well I'm proud to say I still have that body and youthful appearance...NOT!!!!!
