Ainsley woke up Thursday morning with bright red and hot cheeks. We took her temperature, but she wasn't running one, so we sent her to Lisa's. I picked her up from Lisa's that afternoon and Lisa said she was fine all day, but she didn't take a very good nap. I could tell Ainsley was tired just by looking at her. It only took Ainsley a few minutes to fall asleep in the car on the way home. She hasn't fallen asleep on our way home from Lisa's in months!
Once we got home, she immediately woke up and we could tell she didn't feel good. She was running a low fever Thursday evening, so I gave her tylenol and advil all throughout the night. When she woke up Friday morning, she was still running a low temperature. I brought her into the living room and just happened to notice red blotchy spots on her lower legs when she was sitting on the couch. I got her pants off of her and she had hives all over her legs.
I called and got an appointment to see the physician's assistant later that morning. The hives went away within twenty minutes of waking up, but I still wanted to get her checked out, especially since I didn't follow up with the doctor when she had hives a few weeks ago. I'm glad we went in! They checked her ears, which looked fine, but her throat was really red. They ran a strep test on her and it came back positive. They said the hives were from the strep throat, and she can get them from getting too warm. If we have four incidents of hives in a year, then we have to see an allergist. Since Ainsley went for over two weeks without any hives, they're not worried about her right now, but knowing our luck, we'll end up at an allergist.
We got an antibiotic and got out of the doctor's office. Of course, the antibiotic is probably going to give her diarrhea, which will then lead to a terrible diaper rash. We're hoping the next 10 days go by quickly with no signs of diarrhea or diaper rash!
I ran through the McDonald's drive thru on our way home to get my sick baby a Happy Meal, and from the time we left the doctor's office until we got back to Walgreens, Ainsley repeated "Trista-Joel" over and over again. She wanted her Daddy! I bet it was five minutes straight of listening to her say "Trista-Joel" and me telling her that Daddy was at work. The little stinker still calls us "Trista-Joel" instead of Mommy and Daddy!!! Here's a video of her saying it.
One of Ainsley's favorite Christmas presents (more posts on our Christmas festivities later this weekend) was her rubber boots Aunt Jennifer got her. She didn't want to take them off after she opened them, and had to wear them around the house all day on Wednesday. She wouldn't even take them off to take her nap!
She had a little (okay, it wasn't so little) meltdown before we left for the doctor's office Friday morning. I told her we were going to go "bye-bye" and we needed to go get her boots and coat on. She followed me to her room, and I got in her closet to get her boots she was going to wear. Well, Ainsley had other plans! She saw her new rubber boots and thought she was wearing those. When I told her she wasn't wearing her rubber boots to the doctor, the meltdown immediately started. As soon as we got home, she ran and got her rubber boots, and I let her put them on then. She didn't want to take them off that afternoon either! She wore them all around the house (with her Mickey ears that she refused to take off).
Ainsley seems to be feeling a little better today, and I hope it continues to get better and neither one of us catches it from her!
