I had my monthly appointment a few weeks ago with Dr. Huston. It was also time for me to do my glucose test, so I drank the nasty orange glucose drink on our way to the doctor so they could draw my blood shortly after I got there. You have to wait one hour after you start drinking it to have your blood drawn, so it all worked out pretty good.
I was called back to have my blood drawn and was surprised when she started putting the band around my arm. When I had the test done while I was pregnant with Ainsley, they pricked your finger. I was happy to see that they had changed, and were now drawing your blood instead of pricking your finger. I absolutely hate having my finger pricked!
The lady that drew my blood immediately put some on a strip to test my blood sugar. I couldn't see the numbers on the machine, so I asked her if she could tell me if I passed or not, or if I had to wait for the doctor to tell me. She looked over at the machine, and then back at me with a grimaced face and just shook her head at me. I had FAILED it!
I was so mad. I failed the one hour glucose test when I was pregnant with Ainsley, too, and had to sit for the three hour test. I was going to be sitting for the dreaded three hour test again with this pregnancy. Just my luck!
The nurse called me back to the room and asked what I had for breakfast that morning. They told me I could eat that morning, just not in the hour after drinking the drink. I thought I was doing good and had a yogurt for breakfast and a bottle of water. When I told her I had yogurt, she immediately responded with: "That's probably why you failed. Yogurt is filled with carbs that turn to sugar." She told me I should have ate bacon and eggs. Say that again?! Bacon and eggs, and I had a stinking yogurt????
The doctor came in and told me how 24 out of 25 women will pass the one hour test, and I didn't fail it by much, but I still needed to sit for the three hour test. The baby's heartbeat sounded good (in the 140's), and I had gained 3 pounds since last time. He made the comment that my weight gain had slowed down a little!
I asked him if I were to fail the three hour test if I would be put on a special diet. He told me that I would need to adjust my diet, but it wouldn't be too bad. I then asked if candy was included in the diet, to which he laughed and said: "candy isn't exactly in the diet plan." You can't tell this pregnant lady that she can't have candy!!!
Ainsley wanted in on the pictures too |
Mom...what about me?! |
C'mon, Mom...enough with this baby already! |
The nurse called Thursday morning with the good news that I passed the three hour test!!! She told me I could eat Valentine's Day candy until my heart was content. Thank goodness! No special diet for me! I don't understand why I was so unlucky to fail the one hour test with both pregnancies and then pass the three hour test. At least I passed the three hour test both times and didn't have that to worry about.
The baby is very active, and really moves around as soon as Ainsley gets on my lap. I'm talking about every single time I hold Ainsley, the baby starts moving and kicking! My heartburn is still terrible at night, so Tums have become my best friend again. It's getting harder to sleep at night, and for the past few weeks, I've been getting up 2-4 times a night to go to the bathroom. I guess it's just preparing me for the little to no sleep I'll get once the baby gets here.
It's hard to believe that we're going to be meeting our precious little baby in less than 12 weeks. This pregnancy is flying by!
