Tubes

Lily's had numerous ear infections.  It seemed like she would get one every month, although I know it wasn't really that bad.  We had met with the ENT about getting tubes for her ears last spring, but he wanted to see two more ear infections before he would do tubes.  Needless to say, she had two more ear infections, and I called the ENT to schedule an appointment to talk the procedure over again.  He was doing surgery at Passavant that next Friday, and was able to get us on the schedule.  Lily had tubes put in the first Friday in December.  Ainsley stayed the night with Jim and Rita, and was so excited to have Papa Jim take her to school.

We arrived at the hospital early that morning, and they quickly got us to a room to start getting prepared.  Lily was pretty calm through the whole thing.  She was a lot better than Ainsley was prior to her tonsil surgery!  We got her dressed in her gown, and they brought in the happy juice.  It didn't take long for it to kick in, and she was pretty funny to watch.

The surgery didn't take long at all, and she was back in my arms.  She cried a little, but some juice and Mommy's hair was all the medicine she needed.

Everything seemed to be fine after her surgery and by one that afternoon, she was back to normal.  Within a few weeks, she started acting weird again, and I took her into Prompt Care.  The doctor told me she had an ear infection, and gave us an antibiotic.  He told us (along with Dr. Joos) that tubes don't stop ear infections, but would drastically cut them down.  She finished her antibiotic and was fine again.  Then in January, she was acting weird again.  Ainsley had strep throat the week before, so I was afraid Lily had strep.  I took her into Prompt Care, and they told me she had an ear infection.  I was not a happy Mommy at that point and called the ENT the next day, who said there is no way she's had two ear infections since tubes and we should see fluid coming out of her ear if she had an ear infection.  Joel and I had both been watching for fluid coming out of her ears, and never saw any.  I ended up taking her into the ENT's office two days later so he could look at her ears.  He said she didn't have an ear infection, and what he thinks is happening is Lily gets upset when the doctor goes to look in her ears, and the inside of her ear flushes red, like her face, when she's upset and the doctor was probably thinking that was an infection.  So, we were back to square one at that point.  Lily had been on her antibiotic for a few days at that point.  The next time I suspect an ear infection, or anything else weird, I guess I'll be taking Lily into our pediatrician and dodging Prompt Care with her so we're not mis-diagnosed with an ear infection.  Talk about frustrating!!!!!

Here's a short video of her in the Prompt Care room.  I love how the little stinker draws out "Noooooooo".
