Ainsley has thrown up the last three nights right after falling asleep. She's been close to throwing up a few times during her nap, but hasn't. She has a lot of drainage, so we were thinking that was the cause of her coughing while asleep and then eventually throwing up. We tried putting her on her belly to sleep, sitting her up as soon as she started coughing, and even propping her up so she was at a good incline and not flat on her back. Nothing worked.
After she would throw up, she didn't want to be held. Instead, she wanted to get down and run around, while one of us followed close behind her with a towel in our hands in case she threw up again. We knew she couldn't have the flu, because she would throw up once and be up running around the next minute.

Cleaning Mommy's office |
She hasn't been running a fever, and other than the occasional cough during the day (when she's not asleep) and the runny nose, she really hasn't had any symptoms of not feeling good. All her symptoms come while she's sleeping. Her breathing was pretty bad yesterday morning and then Joel heard it last night after she threw up. It sounded like she was having such a hard time taking a breath in, and this was while she was asleep. Once she fell into a good, deep sleep, her breathing got much better, but we both were pretty concerned.
We wondered if her throat was bothering her, because her cough sounded terrible. After the third night in a row of throwing up, and not being able to get comfortable asleep, I decided at midnight I was calling the doctor first thing in the morning. We've let Ainsley sleep in bed with us the last three nights because we were scared she'd throw up in the middle of the night and we wouldnt' hear her, so neither one of us has got much sleep at all. It doesn't help that after Ainsley throws up, it takes her a while to go back to sleep. It was right at midnight last night when we finally got to sleep, and even then, Ainsley took up most of the bed, so neither one of us really slept good.
I knew I was going to be busy with work today, and Ainsley was scheduled to go to Lisa's. Luckily, Joel was able to stay at home and take Ainsley to the doctor. Of course, he would get lucky, and not have to sit in the waiting room very long at all at the doctor's office. He says it's because of his good looks that he got in so fast...HA!
The diagnosis ended up being strep throat, an ear infection, and breathing treatments. We just got over strep throat. Ainsley had her last dose of antibiotic for it over the weekend, and we already have it again?! Is it ever going to end???

She thinks the breathing treatment is a toy...that's not such a bad thing! |
I'm kind of glad Joel took her to the doctor this morning. He can see that it's not as easy as he thinks. He did get lucky and didn't have to spend much time in the actual doctor's office, but he had to wait for her prescription. It's always a 2-3 hour trip to the doctor, even though the doctor's office is only 10 minutes from our house. He went to the Walgreens that the prescriptions were called into, only to find out they had just received it, and it would be 20 minutes or so to fill it. Then, they informed him that they didn't have the child size mask for the breathing treatment, and he would have to go to the other Walgreens to get that. So, he drives across town to get the mask, only to find out it's going to be another 20 minute wait. I know at that point, he was fed up, but at least he sees what I have to deal with every time we go to the doctor. It's frustrating, especially with a sick kid in the car.

Daddy forgot a sippy cup at home. Ainsley loved drinking milk from her straw! |
The doctor said that the strep throat was the reason she was throwing up, and she doesn't necessarily have to run a fever when she has strep. We'd been watching her close for a fever, but she never had one. It's so hard to know when she's actually sick, and I feel bad that I didn't take her yesterday or Wednesday, but we just figured she had a cold with drainage. Hopefully this will pass quickly and we can have a healthy rest of winter/spring.
She got some new "fake" glasses for Christmas and loves to put them on. I can't get her to look at me, though for a picture!
